First off, nice lifting in SPITE of being sick!
Here's my advice. Rest and eat, and trust your training. To be sure you've prayed about this just as much as you have trained, so go out and lift that way! Do all things heartily, as unto the Lord!
God Bless!

Hi Jeff, I agree completely with Doug. Now is the time of rest. I believe earlier that you set as goals in squat and dead at 300. Looks like that will come to be. I believe that the Lord hears all prayer and will even respond to even what we think to be petty little request. I don't believe I've ever prayed to set a record (although I wanted to and have done so) but I do pray for safety and to do the best I can, and that whatever I do that it brings glory to God. I pray a lot at a meet, I suppose because there is a lot of waiting time. I will actually pray before every attempt. I pray, then visualize myself walking up to the bar setting up then doing a perfect lift. I don't like to use myself as an example because if Paul was the chief of sinners then I am the commander in chief. With that said, I try to be as positive an influence as I can. I don't ever curse (even mild words), I always help whoever ask or I find someone to help them. After the meet I approach the spotters, loaders, and all staff and shake their hands and tell them I appreciate them (I do this even if I did not agree with all the calls). When I get home I send an email to the meet director thanking him. It is a monumental task putting on a powerlifting meet, and you don't make any money. I know because I've been there and done that. Now I will climb down off my soap box. Ted

I started working out again. Ted has been helping me out, and today I drove to Russellville, Arkansasand worked out with a PL'er. I will probably go over about once a week.

Hi Jeff, good idea getting with experienced lifters. This gym also probably has equipment your gym does not have which would also be helpful. Let me know if I can help. Ted

Pastor Jeff, Or if you have the funds, you should consider investing in the DVDs series that Rich Peters did about powerlifting. It covers everything and is very professional done. I wonder if I get any proceeds for promoting it! LOL!

Bryan, Are you on commission? Ted, They have chains and boards. The man I am working with is Jamie McDougal---He is a very good lifter.

Hi Jeff, I believe I've heard of Jamie, his name sounds familiar. Can't be a bad gym if it has chains and boards, and now you have someone to show you how to use them. My schedule for next couple weeks is going to be hectic. I'm leaving the Northport Police Department and going to work for the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department. I will be working day shift and getting a small raise. I will probably start next week. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's going to mess up two of my training days. The men I've been working out train at 4 P.M. and I will not get off until 5 P.M. I will adapt though. Talk to you later. Ted

Bryan, Are you on commission? No, but if something is a good product, you recommend it. Especially to brothers.

Good morning, I haven't posted in sometime because I have been busy. I have driving over to Russellville about once a week to work out with Jamie McDougal. It has been a good experience. I am not squatting at the moment for several reasons, the main one being that I am going to do the curl at the next NASA meet. In addition, I have a slight muscle pull in my hip area and I just can't squat and DL in the same week. The muscle is slowing getting better. I am alittle discouraged with my strength my totals seem so small compare to others. However, I keep reminding myself that I am completeing myself right now not others.
Write more later Jeff

I get down and discouraged after meets on occasion, but I always seem to get back in to it after a couple weeks of training. Hang in there, you will improve. When I first started out I got very discouraged watching other lifters. I would see lifters doing 225 on the bench and at the time I thought that was pretty much all the weight in the gym on the bar. I was especially discouraged at the time because I couldn't bench any where close to 225. I've come a long way since then and I know you will continue to improve. There are millions of people that train weights but only a small percentage have the guts to go to a meet and see what they can do legally. Your also no spring chicken no more but still doing good weight for someone raw, someone your age, and someone your bodyweight. Ted

Thanks for the encouraging words Ted. Today was encouraging in the gym, I can tell I am getting stronger. I have to remind myself I have only been working out for three months. I did 160 5 sets X 2, and closed with 165 X 2 sets x 2. I also curl 65 lbs 7X2. I couldn't curl 65 a few weeks ago. I was also reminded that I DL 210X5X4 without chalk last week. My grip is getting stronger.

I had a lousy workout. I did 240X2X2 and couldn't do anything more. I went for my third set and couldn't even move the weight! I may take next week off. I blv I have a pulled muscle. It is located two-three inches below the hip on the very front of the leg. I can barely walk after deadlifting.

I had a good workout Friday. I did closegrip BP's, Overhead presses, decline tri-extensions, Dumbbell Pushups 3 x max, and I did crunches 3 x Max. The left leg has improved but still giving me trouble. One other note, I had started using the conventional stance in the DL. I am not sure I like it, but its hard to tell since I have injured my leg.
God Bless Jeff
