Vince is right on many areas. Personally, I get one last workout in on Monday before the meet. I just want to make sure I can get my opening attempt for 4 reps. That is my entire workout. Then I get rest for the remaining days.

Hi Jeff, I agree with what Vince and Bryan are saying. No deadlift the week before the meet. This is what I do. I do my last deadlift 9-11 days out from meet, my last bench 9 days out and my last squat 7 days before. On those workouts I will go to my opener or within 30-40 lbs. of my opener. When I do these last lifts I do them like I'm at the meet. Suit, belt, wraps, etc. Ted

Good day! I hope you all have a great week, and that the Lord Jesus uses You this week for His Glory. Today was my final squat workout before the meet. I decided to go heavy today because I am new and really need to get use to the weight. So after warming up:
275X1 285X1 290X1
I was tempted to do one more set, but figured that was enough. Please pray for my mother she is in the hospital, nothing serious---one day I will have to tell you my mom. The Lord has been good to us.

Could you do 290 for 3-4 reps?

I am not sure. I would say maybe 2. I know 290 was easier than 285.

Hi Jeff, I know that your probably anxious about the meet, but get use to it. I lift this Saturday (my 109th meet) and I still have a flock of butterflies flying around in my stomach. I believe a little nervous energy helps you out during the meet. I want you to do one thing for me. After the meet, good or bad, don't put yourself down. I hear so many lifters make negative statements after the meet. Someone will ask them how they did and they will reply that they were the only lifter in their division, or they had no competition, etc. I always look at it like this, the meet is open to anyone that wants to compete. You always hear lifters in the gym telling you that they could have done better, or they can lift more than that. Theodore Roosevelt had a great quote that is called the man in the arena. It answers all these critics. Remember, If it was easy to powerlift everybody would do it. God Bless, Ted.

Ted, The nice thing about lifting at a NASA meet, like Pastor Jeff will be doing, is that his coefficient will be calculated so his total can be compared to everyone at the meet, not just those in his class/division. It makes it a head-to-head fair competition against all lifters.
Likewise, I agree with you. I get nervous each meet. That is a good thing. It reminds me to trust God, not myself.

I appreciate guys. I am ready to go! I am under no delusion that I will be above the best at the meet. My goal is just to find out what my max's are so I can train for the next meet, and really start training for Powerlifting. I am going to be in a tough division at 148. Jeff Phillips who is also from Arkansas is 148 and has several records in the NASA division.

I weight this morning to see what my morning weight would be in comparsion to my evening weight. I weigh about 2 lbs lighter in the morning. My current weight is 149.3. I should be able to make 148 with no problem.

I didn't have a good workout today. I tried for 190lbs two times and just couldn't get it up. I was hoping for 200 at the meet.

Pastor Jeff, Jeff Philips is a nice guy. He will help you if you ask. Normally, I weigh less in the morning than the evening. That is why I typically don't do the early weigh ins on Friday unless it has been a while since my last meal, if you know what I mean. Don't beat yourself up too much. I always do more for PR at meets than mine at the gym.

Thanks Bryan. I would also appreciate everybody's prayers. I went to the dr. this morning and tested positive for strep---perhaps this is why bp was off yesterday. I need to get over this before the meet on the 23rd.

Hi Jeff, I've had strep before, a couple of times. Both times were before and through a meet. I went ADFPA (now USAPowerlifting) Deadlift Nationals one year with strep, I still set a National Deadlift record. I didn't know I had strep, just knew I was sick. I went to the doctor a couple of days later and that's when I found out. The 23rd gives you pleaty of time with a good antibiotic. Ted

This was my LAST workout before Power Sports Nationals, and it was my best DL yet. I have strep but it didn't seem to bother me today. Wednesday was I just to tired to Bench. I thank God for allowing me to lift today. I told Him that I was not asking to lift heavy today, just to honor Him.
Here's my heavy stuff I did after the normal warm-ups
260X1 265X1 270X1
I decided that I wanted to do one more set so
I did 275X1
Have A Great and Godly weekend Jeff

No workouts this week, since I am getting ready for my first meet on Sat. Any advise?
Here's what I am looking at for my lifts:
SQ 250 opening lift 2nd lift either 275 or 300 and my final attempt would be either 300 or 325
BP 160 opening lifts 2nd lift 185 and the final lift would be 200
DL 250, 275, and 300.
Jeff
