Did you know that our current health care crisis is the fault of Congress, since that is who created our HMOs and restricted flu shots and other regulations? Why should we, the American people, expect Congress to fix this crisis? After all, when has Congress ever made anything cost less or become more efficient? Haven’t we already seen this failure with other government run programs, such as Fannie Mae, Freddy Mac, Social Security, and a host of other government-run programs?
Do you not recognize that we have the best health care in the world? Other nations send their doctors and nurses here to train, not the other way around. Leaders of foreign nations come here for treatment, rather than in their own countries. People who live in countries with nationalized health care are coming here for medical procedures. Why is all this undisputed facts? America has been blessed with the greatest medical facilities and professionals on the face of this planet.
Have you read HR 3200 yet? This is not a good bill. For example, there is a paragraph that prohibits the writing of new policies by private insurance after the passage of this bill. That means if someone changes jobs, which would normally mean changing private insurance group policy, would be illegal since the new job’s provider would not be allowed to write a new policy for the new employee. If a person gets married and wants to add the spouse to the policy, that would be illegal since the provider cannot alter the policy. This would also be true about attempting to add new children [birth or adoption] to the policy. In effect, this provision helps for ending private insurance options within a matter of years – maybe even before the end of President Obama’s first term. This is one of the many reasons why Americans are realizing that this is a really bad bill.
Yes, I know that the AMA and other organizations have come out in support of this bill. But have you watched the news about doctors leaving the AMA over their endorsement of this bill? The fact just came out how less than 20% of all doctors in America actually belong to the AMA. Hence, this is a minority supporting this bill and that number is shrinking by the day. Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other medical professionals are starting to speak out against it due to how it will ration and limit actual medical care of patients. Why is Congress not listening to the majority to those who serve in the medical community? Why is Congress not listening to patients who are decrying this bill?
So what are you doing to stop this law from passing? What are you doing to stop Congress from meddling any more with our nation’s health care? Have you not seen the polls? As people learn more and more about this bill, the more Americans are opposing it. This is not socialized medicine like Canada or Europe. This bill is like the single-pay system in Cuba, China, and the former Soviet Union. That is what this bill seems to be patterned after. Is that what you really support? Are you a Communist, Nazi, or some other Socialist? Or are you going to do something to protect America while you still can? What are you going to do to protect our Constitution and American way of life?
What about the 47 million of uninsured that keeps being repeated in the media? First off, that number included approximately 20 million uninsured illegal immigrants who are already receiving free medical care, such as what is bankrupting California. They should be deported if here illegally, which would take a huge strain off the economy – especially in the health care system. Then you have people who choose not to have medical insurance, such as young people. There are five that I know personally who find it cheaper not to have insurance [up to 50% discount] and pay their medical bills out of pocket, especially since hospitals and doctors will give you a lower rate if you don’t have insurance due to less paperwork and headaches for them. Those individuals should not be punished for choosing to live responsible lives and attempt to save money. Some could have Medicare or Medicaid but have not applied for it – whatever their reason – but they do already qualify for free public insurance.
Once you get down to the bare numbers, there is actually only 4-5 million Americans who truly want insurance and cannot get it. These American are the one who truly need help. This is individuals with pre-existing conditions. This is people who are impoverished but make too much for government assistance. This is Americans who have retired early and must wait a few years to qualify for Medicare. And there are other reasons, but these are those who are truly uninsured and want medical insurance. It is only about 10% of what is being reported by the politicians.
Guess what – I am one of those in that 10%. I am currently uninsured. Why? I am unemployed from my civilian job, but was getting insurance via Tricare Reserve Select [the Ohio Army National Guard]. Yet, I lost coverage due to being unable to pay the premium for May because my pay had to go to my other bills. Hence, I am now locked out of having medical insurance for an entire year. So, yes, I am speaking as one of the uninsured Americans who want medical insurance. This is part of the problem with the health care system and it is part that the government is already involved with. If there was an exception to this federal regulation, that would allow the lock-out to be waived when there is a loss of civilian employment or other financial strain, then that would fix that particular problem that I am currently facing while being unisured.
Go to any military base around the world and ask the family of our soldiers about the care that they receive while on Tricare Prime [which is a tiered system]. Ask them about the level of care as well as the wait times they have to experience. Ask them about all the restrictions and lack of choice that they experience. And this government health care insurance still doesn’t even cover vision and dental. Then go ask the veterans about the same questions when they go to a VA hospital or clinic. And the families of the veterans, who are carrying some form of government insurance, are getting treated as an even lower tier of priority of care.
Have you wondered why some medical professionals are starting to refuse to receive payments from Medicare or Medicaid? This is due to the payment tier and various restrictions/regulations that tie the hands of medical professionals as they attempt to treat their patients. All of these deal with how the government is already giving the public insurance option and there are tons of problems with them. For example, have you seen the recent reports of approximately $60 billion in fraud for Medicare but no one is doing anything about it? It would give Congress more credibility once they fix these areas that are already being provided by the government before attempting to do anything else. This is another reason why the American people have no confidence in this legislative measure. They want Congress to fix these problems first before attempting to do anything else.
Do you realize that passing this law or something similar, private insurance will gradual go away and this will affect your families too? Any member of your family who is not a dependent on your current policy may be affect immediately if they attempt to make any changes to their policies. Your children and grandchildren will end up being on this single-payer system. I understand that right now you, as a member of Congress, have 12 different medical insurance options to choose from – all of which are private insurance policies. Once a year, you even get the choice to change policies if you don’t like the one you are on. As the private insurance companies go out of business, due to not being able to write new policies, you will lose that option. You will not be able to change policies and eventually even the members of Congress will be forced to be on this government insurance. Yes, this will affect your family and friends, as well as yourself. Maybe you don’t realize this.
So what should we do to help those who are uninsured?
1. Change the qualifications [lower the age, raise the maximum income, etc.] just slightly for Medicare/Medicaid that will help those uninsured to qualify or to be able to purchase it at a rate less than private insurance. For example, eliminate the 1-year lockout for Tricare when emergencies [i.e. unexpected expenses, loss of employment] comes up.
2. Fix the fraud and corruption already in the public health insurance options
3. Allow for healthcare saving accounts [HSAs] and other options to help people to pay for medical care.
4. Give more options for deductions for people for their own medical expenses, including deductibles and premiums.
5. Eliminate the federal regulations and restrictions that hinder our health care system.
6. Have Congress start obeying the 10th Amendment again. HR 3200 will violate it. In case you have forgotten:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution or prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
Yes, the fix is really that simple and easy. Don’t make this more complicated than it needs to be. You should write the law with just those 6 bullet points, with some explanations to each.
If there is a member of Congress that voted for TARP, the stimulus bill, and the climate control bill [cap and trade], that person already has three strikes against him or her going into the next election. Yes, President Obama inherited $1.3 trillion deficit [due to 8 years of overspending by the Bush Administration] coming into office but this Congress is on pace due to these legislative acts to add $4 trillion to that this year alone! And HR 3200 will add $1.63 trillion more [though over a ten year period]. Any support that is given to this bill or one similar will be the final nail in the re-election coffin. That representative or senator will lose the re-election bid. America is fed up with what has happened in Congress since last fall. It is time for members of Congress to get back to serving the American people and obeying the Constitution rather than continuing down this path.
So, my question to you is twofold:
1. What are you doing to stop this bill or anything similar to it from passing?
2. What are you doing to prevent the federal government from interfering ever again with our health care system?
I am going to share this letter with other patriotic, freedom-loving, and God-fearing Americas to contact other members of Congress that represent them. It is my prayer that all members of Congress, including you, will do the right thing for America rather than for your own political career. I look forward to your prompt response. Thanks in advance.
