Greeting and salutations. I am writing you because I am concerned about the path our nation and must speak out. I cannot hold this in any more. Before I go any further, please keep the following three items in mind as you read this correspondence:
1. I am registered independent who votes. I am not a member of either the Democrat or Republican parties.
2. I am writing this as an American citizen, not as my position as a member of the uniformed military.
3. I am writing this as a loyal Christian that prays for you daily, not as a preacher or a chaplain.
With this in mind about me, I want to start with a question for you. What are you doing to protect our republic? What are you doing to stop of from making the same mistakes that the FDR administration did? What are you doing to prevent us from repeating the errors of the Weimar Republic (1919–1933)? Keep in mind the US Treasury Secretary in 1939 admitted that our government policies had caused our country from going from a recession into the Great Depression as well as prolonging the suffering of our country.
And it appears that our government is making the same mistakes. This began with the President George W. Bush. His spending policies is what started us down this path. And now President Obama seems to be continuing the same policies that got us into this mess but at a faster and larger pace. This is why his job approval rating continues to plummet since the inauguration in the polls. We cannot spend ourselves out of debt.
Image that I came home to my wife to find out that she has been getting phone calls from five different credit card companies trying to collect on overdue and maxed out cards. Also, we get a notice in the mail that home is being foreclosed on. Then her car is repossessed that day. She pours out this stress to me. My solution? I am going to start a new credit card, take out a second mortgage, and go purchase another car on credit. I would not even get to sleep on the couch that night! My bags would be on the front porch.
While this is common sense in mainstream America, it appears to the rest of us that our government cannot seem to grasp what is common sense. What make many Americans even more frustrated is that we are being told that it is either (1) approve the spending plans or (2) do nothing. We don’t understand why it doesn’t appear that Congress is even considering alternatives that may be more fiscally responsible? And alternatives have been submitted.
For example, the following is a plan that would help put our country back on the path to recovery.
1. Eliminate the federal corporate taxes. We are one of the worst countries right now on taxing our own companies, which is why they are fleeing to other countries. And these taxes are passed on to the consumer.
2. Eliminate the capital gains tax, or at least cut the rate in half. This will let investors know that it is safe to start pouring their money back into the economy.
3. Eliminate the federal income tax and replace it with the Fair Tax. This will cause the citizens of this nation to have some relief and get rid of the burdensome tax system. And most of the relief would be given to the Middle Class and the poor in this country.
4. Eliminate the over-regulations by Congress that have put us in this situation. For example, cause the housing crisis that we are experiencing was started by the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act (CRA). The Health Maintenance Organization Act of 1973 is largely what has caused our current health care system problems, especially the high costs. If you haven’t noticed but the economies with the least regulations [i.e. Hong Kong] are doing the best right now and those with the most regulations [i.e. North Korea] are doing the worst. Freedom is the best policy.
5. Even if you don’t eliminate the taxes on gasoline and diesel, at least give a 24 month holiday to help the Americans – especially during the hardships of this recession.
6. Help our country to start building refineries and becoming self-sufficient when it comes to energy. For example, over 80% of all our off-shore oil reserves are within 50 miles of our shores but companies are not allowed to drill there. We need to have ample supplies while we pursue alternative energy sources [solar, nuclear, wind, hydrogen, etc.]. Do you realize that if we were to keep even half of the current amount of money we were sending overseas for oil [over $700 billion], we could easily have prevented the current financial crisis?
7. Support Congressional repeal the laws passed during the six months that have caused more government spending, furthered our national debt at an exponential rate, and slowing the recovery rate from this recession.
This simple and common sense seven-step program would put our country on the fast track to recovery.
These solutions are coming from someone who just finished his sixth college degree [3rd graduate level]. My first one was as mathematics major. Plus, I have taught business math at the college level. I do understand economics.
Don’t forget that our Founding Fathers installed more power in Congress than in the Executive Branch. You can repeal the previous laws that have made this recession worse. For example, you should propose legislation to repeal "Troubled Assets Relief Program" (TARP) (Public Law 110-343, 122 STAT. 3765, DOCID: f:publ343.110) and the Obama $787 billion stimulus plan. Will people see you as part of the solution or part of the problem? It is your choice. Do you have the courage to act now, even if it is not in your own political interest or in the interest of your party? Are you willing to put aside personal gain for the benefit of the nation?
I look forward to hearing back from you. I want to know what you are doing to protect our country and Constitution from all threats, both domestic and foreign. Thanks in advance to listening to my ideas.
