DAILY WISDOM
“The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of knowledge: [but] fools despise wisdom and instruction.” [Proverbs 1:7]
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
DOUBT AND FORGETFULNESS
Psalm 78:12-20
We go to God and pray for Him to reveal His will to us. Then we balk at what He commands us to do.
Israel got the attitude of “Can God?” Do we have that same attitude of doubt today?
1. We need a lesson in trust.
• The people doubted God’s ability.
• The people were faithless though they were called of God to be His chosen people.
• The people doubted God while He was in their very presence [Psalm 78:22, 42].
• We need to trust God without reservation.
• “Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.” [John 20:27]
2. We need a lesson in remembrance.
• When being pursued by Pharaoh’s army, Israel forgot how God had used the plagues in Egypt.
• When Israel was in the wilderness and thirsty, the people had forgotten the parting of the Red Sea.
• When the people were hungry, Israel had forgotten how God provided water out of a rock.
• When they sent forth 12 spies, Israel had forgotten the manna and quail.
• Have we forgotten all the times that we have witnessed God’s power and provision in our lives?
• Next time we go through a storm, we need to take inventory of God’ blessings.
3. We need a lesson in the character of God.
• Man may change but God never changes.
• God always keeps His word.
• God always fulfills His promises.
• “And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.” [Romans 4:21]
• “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;” [Titus 1:2]
• “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” [Ephesians 3:20]
These three lessons should give us confidence in God and help us to defeat the enemies of doubt and forgetfulness that will rob us of our victories.
RELIGIOUS AWARENESS
Do you understand any faith or religion other than your own? Sometimes to better understand what you believe, you need to stop and look at what others believe. This can help to reinforce your own views and doctrines.
