question for everyone,
If you can pull 500 lbs with a power bar, but can pull 600lbs with an oakie bar, how much can you really pull? My belief is that you are only as strong as you are when things are at their hardest which would mean you would only be a 500lb puller. what do yall think? by power bar i am talking about a texas power bar, or a mastiff bar or a similar bar that does not even think of bending until you get over 800lbs.

I never really got that much more out of an okie bar. My best pull with a powerbar is 650. I almost locked out 677 in a meet with an okie bar. I was lighter in weight and could get down on the bar better....my opinion.
I know some that say they can pull about 25-35lbs more with the okie, but I personally never really saw it.
500 to 600 is a huge difference!

I have personally seen it happen. Josh Thigpen could not break the ground with my bar and 700lbs. He goes to a meet and pulls 700lbs 4x with an oakie bar! Maybe its just my bar. About 3 years ago I could barely break the ground with my bar and 500lbs, this was getting ready for my first strongman meet. I went to the meet and ripped 598lbs off the ground like it was 405! Who knows.

I'm thinking you take the more conservative of the two...seems more sensible.

Also, by taking the one that is harder, you get a better idea of where you will be all the time. I workout at a YMCA in Easley SC, but our membership actually allows you to go to two locations. One has a bench that I love the other has one that I can't stand to workout on. However, when I workout for a while at the latter gym, I find I am stronger than when I work at the one with the bench I like better.
