I competed my first meet, and it was fun, difficult, embrassing, and very addicting all at once. I met some great people, and ran into my college roommate from years ago. As you experienced lifters know it is more difficult to lift in a meet than in the gym or at least it was for me. I was told the judging was very strict, but I have no way of knowing that. Here are my PR's Sqaut 242lbs---I was red-lighted on my first attempt at 242 because I didn't go low enough. This threw me off. Bench Press---I opend with 165 very light, and than jumped to 176 and it very easy. I then went for 198 and it was way to heavy. Dead Lift---This is the fun and embrassing (can't seem to to spell that word) part I opened with 250 and fell backward with the weight. I think I had my feet pointed to far out===I was doing the sumo style. The weight wasn't heavy so it had to be a foot position problem. I came back and nailed 250 and 275. I really think I could have gone 300. My old college roomate set the NASA unequipped AR and WR. I got to go might post more later, but it was fun!!! I am going to complete in June at the Arkansas Regional NASA. Jeff

Congrats on your first meet. Now that you have the first one under your belt, it's just a matter of learning from your experience, making the necessary changes and with God's grace, conquering the next goal.

Congratulations Jeff you survived your first meet. I know you didn't reach the goals you set, but as you learned, it's a lot more difficult than lifting in the gym. I'm confident that you will attain the original goals you set and then go on to bigger and higher things. Ted

I met several people at the meet. I was talking to one man before the meet started and he warn me about my adrenial (sp?). He told me it was a good thing, but it can also mess you up. The reason I red lighted on my first lift was my depth. The reason I did not go low enough was that as assume as I was going down---I was thinking about going up. I also discovered that I was probably not going low enough in my workouts.
I told one man about the website. His name is Larry Donahue and he is from Ohio.

Hi Jeff, a couple of things to add. Don't be down on yourself about falling back on deadlift. That is pretty common for sumo deadlift. I've been doing it a long time and I still have to set up carefully to keep from loosing my balance. I have lost attempts for this also. Also when the adrenaline is flowing that is a good thing. It is a natural high, that definately helps. Ted

Pastor Jeff, Glad to hear the praise report. Sorry I could be there. Sounds like fun. I heard one guy curled 230 pounds.

Bryan, I think his name was Chris, it was incredible to see two gold plates on a curl bar. I will be lifting again in June at the Arkansas Regional.

Good to hear that. Are you taking a week off or going right back at it?

Congratulations Pastor Jeff! That is ALRIGHT! Man I like your comeback lifts, that is inspiring. There is very little at a meet that is as much fun to watch as someone missing an attempt then coming back and doing even more.
Keep up the awesome work, and I'm looking forward to your next meet.
:')
God Bless!

Pastor Jeff, I have found that taking off the week immediate after a meet will cause me to have a lower total at the next meet. Don't know why. So, I just reduce the workload to 50-75% and work the soreness out that week. Everyone is different.
