I am about to complete in my first meet. I'm a little nervous because I have only been lifting for about 6 weeks. My lifts for each lift will be light. I would appreciate your prayers. My goal for the meet is just to have fun and learn. I'll be lifting at 148.

Jump in and have fun Jeff. It is normal to be nervous. I still get nervous at times. Once you make your first lift the jitters will go away.
Open up with something that you can do at least three times for each lift. That gets rid of the jitters.
Most of all ......have fun.

Pre meet jitters are the norm for me until I start getting geared up in my warmups. I don't know about others, but it's amazing how much time you can spend in the john when you barely even ate anything. I can't usually get down a piece of toast or a cup of oatmeal.

I guess I don't want to look like a fool. My lifts are going to be very light for the meet. I am talking maybe 200 (raw) at 148 for my heaviest. Sq and DL might be 250 raw. My goal is to learn and meet other lifters in my area. I know there are going to be some big lifts there so it makes me self-consc. about my lifting.

News flash...we all looked foolish at our first couple of meets. We wander around aimlessly. We haven't a clue what's going on. We have no idea what "on deck" or "in the hole" is. We probably did 20 reps with 135 to warmup because we don't know any better. Yes, you will look foolish! But, there is no reason to feel self-conscious. It doesn't matter how much you lift. What matters is that you go out and have fun. Try to improve every meet. Talk to the more experienced lifters. They are more than willing to help newcomers. Then, learn from your experience. Adjust your training accordingly and move on to conquer the next goal.

Jeff: Vince is exactly right. Dont worry about the numbers. We arent professionals here. Get your feet wet and have a good time.
One other piece of advice- either bring somebody or find somebody there to help you out. You will need help with either gear or at least a liftoff for the bench. I always bring my guy with me but at times I also needed help. I usuallyget the biggest talles friendliest guy there that doesnt look like he is lifting and make friends with him. Most powerlifters are real friendly. That is something that I like about the sport.
what meet are you competing at?
good luck man.

That will be a fun meet for you to do. No gear to worry about and those guys are pretty fun. You may see Bryan kimble there. he is a power sports guy. I met him at the powersports nats when it was in nashville, tn..
Are they unequipped powerlifting ( squat bench and deadlift)as well as powersports (curl, bench and deadlift) at the PS nationals now?

It is unequipped. I plan on doing most of my lifts in the near future unequipped.

Pastor Jeff, If the sponsors pull my funds together, I plan to be there with my wife and daughter. You can hang out with us. I will not be hard to find. I will be glad to spot you and help you. Also, feel free to email me if you have questions about raw training. Will be glad to help you in any fashion.

Pastor Jeff, No problem. Are you doing Power Sports or Powerlifting or Push/Pull or a combination of them?
