I have been trying to be more open minded to CCM but this article really disturbed me. Churches are becoming dance clubs and carnivals.

What upset me about it was when you start to recruit members to your church based off their singing and not how their heart is towards God! The lyrics of the songs sung in Church need to be the focus. Amazing Grace is an awesome song with or without music. It is not a show! It is about praising and worshiping our Lord. What upsets me more than anything is church service that is not scriptural based. If I wanted an opinion, I would see a psychiatrist, I want the bread, the WORD!

Amen. Sadly, more and more churches are seeking to entertain folks rather than saving the lost and discipling the saved through sound bible preaching. I can understand them wanting to find ways to become more enticing to young people but I question their methodology and their true motives. I'm not going to criticize a church that honestly wants to reach people with the Gospel of Christ but I do think they must realize that getting them in the church through wordly means is not acceptable. I think James 4:4 is pretty clear that we are not have friendship with the world. We also must remember that no matter what style of music a church incorporates into their service nobody has ever been saved through music or plays. Solid Bible preaching must remain the heart of any worship service. The Holy Spirit works through the preaching of the Word and the Word is what brings true repentance and salvation. "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17

Shane, I was watching TBN Sunday night and I will not mention the preacher's name...but it was a show! He used zero scripture during his service. He had the crowd fired up, but he wasn't using scripture to back his thoughts. Don't get me wrong, I agreed with a lot of what he was saying, but I like it when the scripture verses are told during the preaching, so I can note it myself or look it up. What really made it like a show was the organ that was being played every time he got to shouting. It was kinda cheesy. It was like bottled laughter on comedy shows...you know what I mean..or like the tonight show when the drummer hits a quick crack, boom, bam after a punch line. To each their own, but it was like a big show. This reminded me of the article I posted on here. I am currently reading a book by the same preacher, which I like the book and scripture is backed up with his statements...but I was disappointed in his service.
God Bless, Mike

Yes I know who you are talking about. His church is not the only one I have seen use the organ in that manner. He get's his people fired up that's for sure. But I sometimes wonder how much they get out of the service other than an adrenaline rush.
