Have you ever considered what God has to say about what we watch? It is true that televisions, movies, and video games did not exist when the Bible was written.
Yet, the Bible is timeless and its principles can be applied to us today. For example Psalm 101:3 says that we are not to set any evil thing before our eyes. Proverbs 6:16-19 gives us examples of some of these evil things that we should not be watching. Philippians 4:8 gives us examples of the good things that we can watch and think about.
Beyond that we need to avoid things that promote or condone:
1. Magic and the occult in any fashion [Deuteronomy 18:10-12]
2. Glorified and graphic violence for the sake of violence [Psalm 11:5]
3. Sexually implied or explicit programming [Leviticus 18:6-9; Job 31:1; Matthew 5:28]
4. Profanity, blasphemy, and vulgar language [1 Corinthians 15:33; Ephesians 4:29]
When you watch these types of programs, they will affect you either directly or indirectly. There is a computer term GIGO that means garbage in, garbage out. This is what will happen to you as a believer if you allow this garbage into your mind and heart. That is what will come out of you. What you sow is what you will reap. [Galatians 6:7-8] Remember not to use the excuse that “It is not all bad”. The Bible already has an answer to that excuse in 1 Corinthians 5:6 and Galatians 5:9. It does not take much sin to affect you.
