LESSON 4: BEING A SINNER
Soul Winning Scripture Verses:
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” [Proverbs 11:30]
“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” [Matthew 4:19]
If you have been doing your previous assignments, you should have:
1. Shared your testimony of how you got saved with both another Christian and with an unsaved friend, family member, fellow student, or co-worker.
2. Invited someone to church.
3. Memorize Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23.
4. Placed 7 Gospel tracts anonymously in public places [payphone, public restroom, etc.].
Staying Humble
We must always remember that we are nothing more than sinners saved by grace. The lost person usually doesn’t understand what sin is or about our sin nature. We need to help show them their current spiritual “condition” so they can receive a pure “transfusion” of the blood of Christ to save their souls.
Verses To Use
You should have Romans 3:23 memorized. This is one of the best verses to use to help teach someone that we are all sinners. Be sure to have your KJV Bible open while you are showing it to the person. With this verse memorized, you can even turn the Bible to face the other person rather than yourself. This will allow them to see that you are not misquoting it. If you need to, you can even move back to verse 10 while there: “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.”
You may even want to pencil in the references to the following verses beside Romans 3:23 in you Bible so that you can turn to them quickly if the person needs more evidence. Also, fill in the section of each verse that is missing as you complete this lesson.
· “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are , they have done abominable works, there is that doeth .” [Psalm 14:1]
· “They are gone aside, they are all together become : there is that doeth good, no, not one.” [Psalm 14:3]
· “Behold, I was shapen in ; and in did my mother conceive me.” [Psalm 51:5]
· “ we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the of us all.” [Isaiah 53:6]
· “But we are as an unclean thing, and all our are as filthy rags, and we all do fade as a leaf; and our , like the wind, have taken us away.” [Isaiah 64:6]
· “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made …” [Romans 5:19]
· “But the scripture hath concluded under , that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.” [Galatians 3:22]
· “If we say that we have no , we ourselves, and the is not in us.”[1 John 1:8]
Most of the time you will not ever need to use these. Most people will admit that Romans 3:23 is true. They will usually admit that they have done things wrong in their life and that they are not perfect. This is what is needed.
Why is it so important to teach someone that they are a sinner? There can be no true and Biblical repentance until the person comes to the realization that he or she is a wretched and lost sinner who needs the Lord. And they cannot come to this realization until someone takes the time to show him or her from the Bible this simple truth. This is the first step in that process and the first step toward that person trusting Christ as Savior.
