No religious institution on earth has as much to fear about its members reading the Bible as the Catholic Church. The following is an excerpt from an address given by the Cardinals to Pope Pius III, and is preserved in the National Library of Paris, Folio No. 1068, Vol. 2, pp. 650 651:
"Of all the advice that we can offer your holiness we must open your eyes well and use all possible force in the matter, namely to permit the reading of the gospel as little as possible in all the countries under your jurisdiction. Let the very little part of the gospel suffice which is usually read in mass, and let no one be permitted to read more. So long as people will be content with the small amount, your interest will prosper; but as soon as the people want to read more, your interest will fail. The Bible is a book, which more than any other, has raised against us the tumults and tempests by which we have almost perished. In fact, if one compares the teaching of the Bible with what takes place in our churches, he will soon find discord, and will realize that our teachings are often different from the Bible, and oftener still, contrary to it."
Techniques To Help Win A Catholic To Christ
If they start to tell you that they are Catholic and do not want to become a Baptist [or whatever church you belong to], tell them that you have a secret that you want to tell them. They will usually get very interested in that. Tell them that there will be no Baptists [or your congregation] or Catholics in Heaven, only people who have trusted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Ask them if they would explain to you how to trust Christ as Savior. If they don’t know how, explain to them the “Roman’s Road”:
Romans 3:23 Romans 6:23 Romans 5:8 Romans 10:9-10, 13.
If you find an argumentative Catholic [especially when it comes to the writings of the Apostle Paul], point out the doctrines that they believe that are Biblical:
1. The Trinity [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit]
2. The virgin birth of Jesus
3. The deity of Jesus
4. Jesus’ atoning and sacrificial death
5. The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ
6. The Bible is God’s Word
Then take them to John 3:16-18 and ask them to explain it to you.
When dealing with a priest, a nun, or an extremely religious member of the Roman Catholic Church, ask them: “Do you believe that we should obey Mary?” If they answer yes, read the following Bible verse to them:
“His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.” [John 2:5]
Then ask them if they believe that Jesus is the sinless and perfect Son of God. If they say, “yes”, ask them if they are willing to obey the following quotes from Jesus:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” [John 3:16]
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” [John 5:24]
“Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” [John 6:29]
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” [John 6:47]
“He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.” [John 8:47]
