For me, this seems to be an odd request. But lately, I feel like the devil has been attacking my mind with fear.
I have been battling some high blood pressure issues. I know that God has given me my strength and I trust that He will use my strength for His glory. I've been able to keep my HBP under control with meds. Pretty much in the morning, it's normal. I've noticed on my lifting days, that it will run high, like 170/110. Then the next day, it's back to normal. I know lifting will make the BP go up. However, I'm not sure whether one of my recovery drinks may also be the culprit. (I haven't stopped it on my training days to test it yet)
The fear is that I'm worried about having a heart incident. I've never ever worried about this stuff before. But lately, it seems to lurk in the back of my mind.
I've told my wife that I will probably retire within the next year or two anyway. And if God is leading me out, that's fine. I've accomplished everything I set out to do, except one thing. But, I don't want to be forced to retire because of a trick of the devil.
So I'm asking prayer that God will help me control this fear and also to know whether or not this is a trick of the devil or if it is His way of telling me that it's time. (I'm kind of dense on these things...lol)
Thanks, Vince

If you are training and exercising properly, your BP should be getting lower. That is one of the fears my doctor has about me lifting weights. As you strengthen your heart and increase your vascularity, the blood pressure will naturely reduce.
Here are a couple suggestions: 1. Record your BP immediately before and after your workout. It should be elevated immediately following the workout. 2. Record your BP daily at the same time [e.g. first thing in morning] to see what your normal resting BP is. 3. Check to see what things during the day could be elevating your blood pressure - dietary [caffeine, salt, suppliments, etc.], mental [work, news, etc.], relationship [wife, family, church, etc.].
As you chart these things and begin to analyze your life, I think you will find the culprit and may be able to end use of the meds.

I believe I may have found (one of) the culprit to my BP issues. I took my BP this morning...normal. I worked out. Afterwards, I took my creatine mix then drove home...about 35 minutes. I took my BP when I got home...still normal. So, then I decided to take my Blue Thunder, which I normally drink on the way home, but decided to wait to see. I drank it, waited about 15 minutes and took my BP again. This time it was high, like 160/96. This stuff has Yohimbe and caffeine in it, both of which can raise BP. It also has ginseng, which depending on what source you read, may or may not raise BP. So, I'm going to switch to something different that is similar, but does not have these ingredients in it. We'll see what happens.

Thanks Bryan. I've not heard of this before, but it looks more like an energy drink and I'm looking for more of a post workout recovery drink.

Just a guess, but I think you can stand up and holler "BINGO!!!"
In addition to Bryan's suggestion, also look into Cytomax. Check out the ingredients and read customer reviews about it. I use it when I squat and deadlift so I'll go ahead and give you my customer review. I do NOT get a "rush" or burst of energy from it. What I do get is hard to describe. I'm not pumped or jacked, but instead of feeling like the next set will leave me gasping for breat quivering in a heap on the floor in a pool of sweat, I feel like I can complete the set, maybe even an extra rep, and not die.
:')
God Bless!

Thanks Bryan. I've not heard of this before, but it looks more like an energy drink and I'm looking for more of a post workout recovery drink. Welcome, brother. I listened to interview of him on NPR. Supposedly he went to the Far East and studied all the herbs and stuff that they [monks, martial arts disciples, etc.] use for energy and health to create these drinks. He wanted something that he knew would improve people's health, not just increase their energy levels. That is all I know about it.

Vince I will pray the Lord leads you in the direction he wants you to go. As for your fear - he can handle anything you encounter so take comfort in that. From reading earlier posts, it sounds like you may have the problem somewhat in hand. Nevertheless, if you feel that the Lord is leading you away from competitive lifting (and I hope he isn't yet because from what I have seen in your videos you are incredible) please follow his direction even if it is difficult. I pray the that the Lord gives you the wisdom to recognize the plan he has in this matter and that he gives the the strength to follow it! Take care of yourself and be blessed!
