I received an email yesterday from a friend and was in total shock. I didn't know his father had passed away! Let's keep him in our thoughts and prayers. God knows his name and needs!
Hello everyone,
I hope everyone is well & enjoying the summer.
I wanted to express a prayer request, but before I do that, I need to inform
everyone about a recent event that has dramatically affected our family.
About 2 weeks ago, I found my father dead in his home. His death was completely
unexpected and shocking to us because he was not severely sick, and he was not
very old. Some of you receiving this email visited us that evening to comfort us
during our grief and we cannot thank you enough to express our deep appreciation
for you. Although I believe my dad is in heaven, we miss him deeply especially
since we had no opportunity to say good-bye.
All of you know that powerlifting has been a big part of our lives for many
years. I started powerlifting in 1985 and my dad was there to encourage me from
the beginning. I have competed many, many times since 1985 and my dad made it to
99% of my meets. He always believed in me and encouraged me to reach for big
goals, not little ones. Over the past 21 years, the Lord has blessed me with the
health & strength necessary to be succesful at a local & state level. But I must
confess that my motivation for most of those years had more to do with
gratifying my own competitive ego and less to do with glorfying the Lord.
I have also been dealing with a shoulder injury for the past several months
which has hindered my training.
Now my motivation to compete is different. It must be to glorify the Lord first
and second to honor the memory of my dad. My dad believed I would be a USAPL
national champion someday and I want to accomplish that goal to honor him. In
fact, my dad used to call me the future world's strongest architect. He was a
proud father that loved his son.
My prayer request is this:
that I would have the grace to BOLDLY glorify the Lord in ALL of my future
contests and for a quick, complete healing of my shoulder so I can train as
required to reach the goal of USAPL national champion.
Thanks in advance for your prayers and thanks for being a friend to me & my
family.
