Mark S.: nothing anyone writes on this forum can mean you're not a Christian. If you've accepted Jesus as your personal savior, that's it. You can still sin, of course. Are performance-enhancing drugs a sin? Well, if they're illegal by the law or your intent is to cheat, yes. If you have a prescription and a TUE (USAPL acronym for Theraputic Use Exception), then no.

then define drugs.....I think alot of people would consider caffiene and nicatine or alcohol a drug. or are we just talk about illegal drugs.
I am just asking if it should extend beyond illegal drugs. Do we have an obligation as christians, and if so.....to what extent

To me nicotine is a drug with the only purpose being addiction. Caffeine is a stimulant but not a dangerous drug unless you find some new way to take it other than coffee. I started the post and had illegal or banned substances on my mind.
I only have an opinion not an answer.
Anything that is harmful to your body or that is used for cheating is (in my opinion) wrong.

You ask some good questions Mark S.. I am wondering about some of them myself. That is why I brought the poll up and topic for discussion.
Thanks, Tom

It is an interesting discussion, I am curious to what people think. Sometimes the line in the sand is not always clear. I wanted to get in on this discussion because it is so interesting on many levels. Its not only the discussion on illegal drugs, but also what is harmful to your body, possiblity of cheating, but also the role a christian plays in althetics and life itself.
But my real question is even deeper. It has always been a question of mine and I am very interested in hearing thought on the matter.
The question is, are we bending the rules to fit our needs, or vice versa. question in point, when we quote the bible or interpret its meaning, are we slanting it to our own views and needs, or are we listening to the word. Its kinda like the question, define the word drug....as you can see, there are different interpretations, it also seems to me that the same thing happens on bible interepretations.
this is only thought provoking and not intended to offend, please dont take it that way. I am interested in your thoughts on this matter.

hey guys,,i have a similiar story,,oh where to begin ..I have been saved for a little over 6 years(1999). I got married to my beautiful wife Nikki in august of 2001. About a month later i started feeling wierd,,,i was getting hot flashes, had no sex drive and felt very lethargic. I went to the doctor to have a full blood workup, my test level came back at about 200 ng/dl. I had never had a problem until then..i was 26 and had the test level of a 65 year old man..i did not use anabolics and felt that GOD had blessed me with my strength and loved being drug free..they put me on 300 mg bi weekly of testosterone cypionate,,and after about 3 months ceased the injectables and put me on androgel. i actually had to have a large amount of tests done(an MRI was one, as my endocronlogist thought i had pituatary tumors) which thank GOD was not the case. after about 1.5 year on the gel i started getting testosterone from friends illegally..i tried justifying it saying that i "had a legal reason to use it" well we know how the flesh is,,as i did not have a right to use 1,000 mgs weekly..for about a year i used more test then i should have( i never used any other anabolics) and GOD was convicting me in a major way. heading into the 2004 APF nationals in baton rouge, GOD made it clear that HE was the source of my strength and the disobedience had to stop NOW.. That was the turning point..I have been on 250 mgs weekly(under the supervision of a doctor)for quite a while now..By GODS grace i am stronger then ever..God has blessed me and i am thankful for his love and grace..Doctors are not sure if my normal test will ever turn back on as the cause was idiopathic (no known cause) in the first place..I do believe that JESUS is the greatest anabolic in the world and truly feel that is all i need..Just thought i would share in his grip forever john

If we remove the legality of AAS out of the way, does that change anyones mind? To say they are not right to do simply because they are illegal doesnt hold much water, alcohol is legal, yet taken in excess is wrong, so would the same hold true with steroids, if they were legal?

This has been a really great, thought-provoking thread! Really makes us each critically reflect on our own opinions, beliefs, interpretations, actions.....and sometimes we may not like what we find when we reflect. I believe it was Chris that said it best, though, that we should allow ourselves to be guided by the Holy Spirit. You know, some folks won't wear a pair of shorts for anything, they have a personal conviction. Some folks wear shorts and don't think twice about it. Here's the point: for the fellow who has a personal conviction about wearing shorts, don't wear them! But for the fellow that doesn't mind shorts, don't flaunt them! (Meat offered to idols is just meat, unless it causes a weaker Christian to fall away.)
Okay, shorts are NOT drugs. Maybe not the best analogy. But we've pretty much agreed that if it's illegal, it's cut and dried. So through prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God so the peace which passes all understanding can fill your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. If God's Spirit convicts you of caffeine, don't overdo it.
What do yall think? Does that still sound hypocritical on my part? Shoot straight, I can take it. :')
God Bless all. Doug P.
