LESSON 8: THE SILENT PARTNER
Soul Winning Scripture Verses:
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” [Proverbs 11:30]
“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” [Matthew 4:19]
If you have been doing your previous assignments, you should have:
1. Shared your testimony of how you got saved with:
· Another Christian
· An unsaved friend, family member, fellow student, or co-worker
· A complete stranger
2. Invited eight different people to church.
3. Memorize Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Romans 5:8, Romans 10:13, John 3:16, and Isaiah 53:6.
4. Placed 56 Gospel tracts in various public and private locations.
5. Personally given six Gospel tracts to people that does not fellowship with our congregation.
Two By Two
1. How did the Lord Jesus send His disciples out?
a. Mark 6:7
b. Luke 10:1
2. What is important about the power of two? [Deuteronomy 32:30]
Two is the perfect number – the number designated in the KJV Bible by God.
The Silent Partner
Only one person is to do the talking; the other is to be quiet. Two people cannot both talk and do an effective job. Before you approach the door, decide who is going to do the talking and let him carry on. The ideal situation is for an experienced soul winner to be training a new soul winner all of the time. The following are some important rules for the Silent Partner.
1) The silent partner must be silent, no matter what he thinks he or she can add to the conversation. The only exception is if the Holy Spirit is definitely moving his or her heart.
2) Stand out of the way and let the speaker in the forefront.
3) The silent partner is also a prayer partner. This does not mean bow your head and start to pray out loud.
4) The silent partner must run interference. He or she should offer to:
a) Turn off the TV if possible.
b) Try to take care of unruly children.
c) Attempt to sidetrack one who intrudes or butts-in.
d) Take care of any pesky pets.
e) Answer the door if they will let you.
f) Hold or feed the baby.
g) Answer the phone and take a message.
h) Wait until the soul winner has completed his portion of the conversation and turns the conversation over to you before you try to add anything.
5) There are some definite “no-nos” for the silent partner.
a) Do not interrupt.
b) Do not appear disinterested or sleepy.
c) Do not read or take notes.
d) Do not scold children or intruders.
e) Do not be negative or critical.
The job of the silent prayer partner is a very important one, just as important as the one doing the talking.
