Soul Winning Scripture Verses:
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” [Proverbs 11:30]
“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” [Matthew 4:19]
If you have been doing your previous assignments, you should have:
1. Shared your testimony of how you got saved with another Christian.
2. Invited someone to church for next Sunday.
3. Memorized Romans 3:23.
Getting Started
The way we approach a lost soul regarding the subject of salvation determines to a large degree how effectively God uses us. Here are some opening lines that might just work quite well. Remember questions invite feed back, where statements can be misunderstood as accusations.
1. “What is your church background?”
2. If they wear a cross on chain, you might say, “What a lovely piece of jewelry you are wearing. Why do you wear it?”
3. If you walk into a room and someone says, “Are you lost?” Immediately reply with, “No, I am saved. Now that you asked me, allow me to ask you. Are you spiritually lost?”
Why might these conversation starters help you to get an opportunity to share the Gospel?
Here are some one-liners we should NOT use are:
1. “If you do not stop living the way you live, you will die and go to hell.”
2. “I would not be caught dead going into any church except a [fill in name of your church or denomination] church.”
3. “That religion you are clinging to is a cult!”
Why might these statements prevent you from sharing the Gospel?
Regardless of what the person says about religion or church, do not get into a debate or argument with them. If they are negative and have a bad attitude about church, here is an opening for us to tell them about what Jesus did for us [i.e. your testimony]. Lost people are more apt to talk about Jesus than they are church or religion. Besides, what did Jesus say about lifting His name, John 12:32?
Look in the Bible and see how the Lord Jesus and others started conversations with the lost:
1. Jesus with the Samaritan woman [John 4:7]
2. Jesus with Nathaniel [John 1:47]
3. Jesus with Matthew [Mark 2:14]
4. Jesus with Peter and Andrew [Matthew 4:19]
5. Peter and John with the lame man [Acts 3:4]
6. Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch [Acts 8:30]
7. Peter and Cornelius [Acts 10:25-27]
If you have trouble starting a conversation with a complete stranger, especially about the Gospel, try some H.E.L.P. for an “ice-breaker”:
H – Discuss the person’s home and property.
Point out things that impress you or you are fascinated with.
E – Discuss employment.
Ask where the person works and what he or she does there.
L – Discuss loved ones [family].
This is especially easy if there are pictures or children present.
P – Start into the plan of salvation.
1.) “If you should die right now, are you sure you would go to heaven?”
2.) “Could I take a minute and show you from the Bible how you can know for sure?”
Assignment [Check when complete]:
1. Share your testimony of how you got saved with an unsaved friend, family member, fellow student, or co-worker.
2. Place 7 Gospel tracts anonymously in public places [payphone, public restroom, etc.].
3. Memorize Romans 6:23.
